Many of these futuristic technologies are already available and have been developed, even though many people can only dream of them. Many cars include advanced technology including automated parking, automatic lane correction, potential collision detection and lane correcting. Tesla cars are already available and include assisted-driving technology. 55 companies are permitted to test autonomous vehicles today. These innovations have the potential of becoming very common. But are they viable?

Streaming music or films

Streaming music and movies is the future. Television and the internet have conspired together to make old media obsolete and create new ones. According to a Moffett Nason report, streaming revenue has increased by $3 billion from zero to zero in just three years. Although DVDs once appeared to be the salvation of the movie industry's financial situation, streaming has become a public benefit. Let's look at how streaming movies and music are being financed.

Driverless lorries

Driverless lorries are not as far-fetched as you might think. Although the technology is already available on the market, it will take more time to adapt to different locations. Different sensors are needed for driverless cars, including lidar and radar used in airports. These sensors feed into hybrid artificial intelligence systems, which may include modules that engineers have developed. The information the driverless vehicles gather is used to determine how alert the driver is and whether to change their course.

Robotic exoskeletons

Though there has been much hype about robotic exoskeletons, public opinion is divided. Only 6% of Americans say they have heard about these futuristic machines, while 37% say they are neutral. 52 percent say they are unsure and 52 percent are skeptical. However, the survey results show that opinions about robots are not based upon any particular ideology.

Transparent television

It is possible to have a transparent TV. Although the concept was introduced by LG many years ago, it wasn't until the past few months that it made its way to retail shelves. Unlike the LG model, the Chinese tech giant Xiomi released the first commercially available transparent television in May of 2012. It's not the most beautiful television, but it has great sound and clarity. A transparent television is available for purchase at a price of RMB 49.999.

Invisibility

Invisibility in futuristic things is something that people often dream about, but not everyone can afford it. Recent advancements have made it possible for people to disappear using cloaking technologies. This technology could even be used to disguise huge objects like towers, cellphones, or even wreckage. But it is still a long way away from becoming practical. For now, only responsible scientists are able to afford it.

FAQ

What's the difference between a mechanic and an automotive technician?

They are both similar, but not identical. The mechanic fixes cars while the technician maintains them.

A mechanic must be skilled in manual dexterity and able to complete simple tasks quickly. They must also be able to diagnose problems accurately and repair them effectively.

An automotive technician needs to be more technically skilled than a mechanic. They need to be able use tools such drills and wrenches, and read blueprints.

They must also be able to carry out complex procedures safely. They should also be familiarized with the different types of engines as well as electrical systems.

They must also be capable of understanding how parts interact.

A mechanic typically earns less than an automotive technician. But there are many opportunities for both jobs.

What jobs are available for car mechanics?

There are three major areas of employment that car mechanics work in:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

This is where most people first think of becoming a mechanic. This is the best way to get started. Either you can work in a shop that is owned by another person or start your own business.

If you are interested in working at a shop you will need to apply for membership to a union. Once you have been accepted into the Union, you'll be given training by the union.

You'll be ready for work once you have completed the training.

You will need to register if your garage is going to be open. After you have registered, you will need to meet certain standards.

After you have registered, you will be issued a license to operate your garage.

Your license allows you to sell spare parts and make minor repairs. It will not allow you to repair major engine problems.

In addition to selling spare parts, you'll also be expected to offer advice and guidance to customers.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships only employ mechanics who have a specific skill set. They may be trained to replace or repair tires, or they may specialize in brakes.

Some dealerships hire general mechanics to handle all aspects of car repair.

These positions may require applicants to complete specific training before being allowed on the job. This allows employers to pick the right candidates for their jobs.

Some dealerships will hire graduates straight from college. These graduates are already familiar with basic mechanics and can therefore learn about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages do not belong to any dealership. Instead, they focus on high-quality customer service.

Independent garages can pay higher wages because they aren't associated with any company. This means that these jobs are usually more lucrative than those at dealerships.

However, independent garages may not be better places to work. Many owners prefer to control their businesses themselves, rather than delegating it to employees.

So you may find yourself working long hours without having any say over what happens during the day.

You should also expect to earn lower wages than if you were employed at a dealership.

The good news? You can easily switch between different types of jobs. You can switch jobs easily if you are interested in working at a dealership. Simply ask your employer if they would be open to hiring you as a mechanic.

Alternatively, if you'd like to work at an independent garage, then you could try applying directly to the owner of the garage.

Unfortunately, finding a new job can be difficult. There are plenty of other factors that influence how much you earn.

Consider, for example, what type of vehicle you are repairing and whether additional labor charges will apply.

Is it important which college I go?

Non, really. There's no difference between colleges regarding getting into the automotive industry. You will find that some schools offer better programs than others. If you are looking for something more specific, consider going to another school.

To work as an automotive mechanic, do I need a degree? Do I have to study part-time?

Although it's not mandatory, a degree can help. Employers will prefer candidates who have completed a degree. It shows that your efforts have been put in and you have succeeded.

However, it doesn't mean you can't still work while studying. Some universities permit students to do coursework during summer holidays and complete their studies later in a year. Students can also take classes part time throughout the academic year.

How long is an apprenticeship for an automotive mechanic?

It takes three years to complete an apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic. This includes two years in school and two as an apprentice. The first year is spent learning all aspects of the trade, including theory, practical skills, and safety procedures. During this time, you'll also learn how to use tools safely and efficiently. After the completion of the first year, you will spend another year on the job training. Here you'll gain valuable experience in different trades. These periods will also give you the chance to take formal courses.

The final year of the program is spent gaining qualifications and becoming certified in the field. These include NVQs, which are obtained after passing industry-specific exams. Additionally, HNCs are Higher National Certificates that cover general subjects such management, customer service, and business administration. City & Guilds certificates may be available for those who are interested in becoming qualified in specific trades.

How To

How to be an Automotive Technician

A technician who works on vehicles is an automotive technician. He/she is employed at automobile dealerships, garages, service centres, and auto shops. He/she helps customers fix their cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, boats, lawn mowers, snowmobiles, tractors, trailers, farm equipment, planes, helicopters, jet skis, watercraft, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, golf carts, etc. A technician in automotive must be able diagnose and repair problems quickly, safely, accurately, efficiently, and effectively.

An associate degree should be obtained from a vocational school if you wish to work as an auto technician. After completing this program the student must pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence exam (ASE). ASE stands as American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASE certification test consists two sections. The first section tests for mechanical knowledge, the second for practical skills. You must attend one of the authorized testing sites to take the test. You can find these locations online or through your local automobile dealer.

After passing the exam, a candidate must take a state exam before being licensed as an automobile technician. It varies depending on the location of the applicant. Some states require that applicants attend a training class, while others allow them freedom to study at their own pace. In addition, some states license technicians immediately after they receive their license, while others wait until they have completed at least six months of employment as an automotive technician.

To get started as an automotive technician, a person should apply to a local automotive dealership. Once hired, most new employees start out working as apprentices. Apprenticeships typically last three years. A student will learn to repair basic things like changing oil, adjusting brakes or replacing tires. They also learn how spark plugs are cleaned and inspect engine compartments. Some students will learn advanced repair techniques, such as changing shocks, installing air filters, and replacing engines. Most schools offer classes during regular business hours. Some schools also offer evening classes when needed.

Once a student is done with his/her apprenticeship he/she can become a master journeyman. Journeymen spend typically four to five years learning to install major systems such as transmissions and differentials, steering gear, suspensions and drive shafts. Journeymen also learn to fix complicated problems, such as rebuilding engines or troubleshooting electric components. Employers prefer to hire journeymen as they are familiar with the job and can anticipate customer needs.

Candidates who pass the required exams are eligible for a license. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (2010), almost 1.7million automotive mechanic jobs were on the market. That number was expected to grow by 18 percent from 2009 to 2020. Candidates who decide to open their own business should be prepared to invest thousands in equipment and supplies.

The salary for an automotive technician depends on several factors, including the type of employer, location, education level, and experience. A jobless person could make an average of $20,000 annually. A person with only a high-school diploma could make around $21,000 annually. A bachelor's degree is equivalent to approximately $24,000 annually. Technicians with a bachelor’s degree made about $27,000 annually. The average annual salary for those with master's degrees was $32,000. Salary increases can be common. A professional who earns less that $30,000 today could reasonably expect a $40,000 increase in the next few decades.
