How to become an Automotive Technician

Automotive technicians provide repair and maintenance services to vehicles. He/she is employed at automobile dealerships, garages, service centres, and auto shops. He/she repairs cars, trucks, motorbikes and snowmobiles for customers. An automotive technician must be able to diagnose problems and make repairs quickly, safely, accurately, and efficiently.

An associate degree from a vocational school is required for anyone who wishes to become an automotive technician. After completing this program the student must pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence exam (ASE). ASE stands in for American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
